Privacy Policy

Last updated 2026-10-07

This policy explains what personal data Lessonwise (getlessonwise.com) collects, why, who it is shared with, how long it is kept and the choices you have. Lessonwise is a lesson-planning service for English teachers.

Who we are

Lessonwise is operated by Abdelkrim Amrani, Tangier, Morocco. We are responsible for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at support@getlessonwise.com.

Data we collect

  • Account information: your name, your email address and your password. Passwords are stored only as a one-way hash; we cannot read them.
  • Profile information (optional): what you choose to add in Settings, such as teaching specialization, institution, levels taught, teaching context (for example country, curriculum, classroom conditions), lesson defaults and a logo or profile image.
  • Your content: your lesson requests and the lessons, student materials, worksheets, quizzes, presentations, homework, teacher notes, templates and question-bank items you create or edit, including earlier versions kept in version history.
  • Plans you upload to “Check my plan”: the text of the plan (from a file or pasted) and the review we produce. The uploaded file itself is not kept, only its name and extracted text.
  • Reviews (optional): if you leave a review of Lessonwise from your Dashboard, your star rating, review text, the display name you choose and an optional “about you” line (for example your teaching context). A review is shown on our home page, including in the structured data that search engines read, only if you tick the box allowing publication and we approve it. You can edit or delete your review at any time; after a change, it is checked again before it appears.
  • Payment and credit records: the credit pack, amount, currency, date, status and PayPal order ID of each purchase, promo codes you redeem, and a history of credits added and used. We never receive or store your card number or PayPal password.
  • Support messages: messages you send in the help chat on our website and the automatic replies. They are stored under a random conversation ID and are not linked to your account; if you are signed in, your account email is saved with the message text so we can follow up. If you contact us on WhatsApp, your phone number and messages. If you email us, your email and its contents.
  • Password reset: when you ask for a reset link, a single-use token stored only in hashed form, which expires after 60 minutes.
  • Technical data: the cookies described below. Your IP address, and for sign-in and password resets your email address, are kept briefly in server memory (at most 24 hours after your last request) to limit abuse of sign-up, sign-in, the help chat and other features. Your IP address may also appear in the routine technical logs of our hosting providers.

We do not collect analytics or advertising data, and we do not build advertising profiles.

Data that stays in your browser

Some features keep data only on your own device (in your browser’s local storage). It is not sent to us, and clearing your browser data deletes it:

  • class lists (student names) you type into Classroom tools, used by the random picker and group maker;
  • your private notes in Teaching mode;
  • unsaved edits to a lesson, kept as a safety copy until they are saved;
  • the current help-chat conversation (until you close the tab) and small display settings.

How we use your data

  • to create your account, sign you in and keep your account secure;
  • to provide the service: create, store, improve, review and export your lessons and materials, tailored to the profile details you choose to give;
  • to process purchases, keep your credit balance correct, issue receipts and handle refunds;
  • to send transactional emails, such as password reset links (we do not send marketing emails);
  • to answer your questions in the help chat, by WhatsApp or by email;
  • to prevent fraud and abuse, fix problems and keep the service running;
  • to meet legal obligations, for example accounting and tax rules.

We process your data because it is needed to provide the service you signed up for, because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and working well, or because the law requires it. We do not sell or rent your personal data.

Automatic content creation

Lessons, materials, improvements, critiques, differentiated versions, activities, plan reviews and help-chat answers are created automatically with the help of third-party service providers. When you use one of these features, the text needed for that task is sent to them: for example your lesson request and the relevant profile preferences (such as country, curriculum or teaching context), the lesson you want to change, the plan you upload, or your help-chat message. We do not include your name, email address or password in these requests.

These providers are currently Google (Gemini API) and DeepSeek. They process the text to return a result to us and handle it under their own terms and privacy policies. Because what you type is sent to them, please do not include personal data about your students (or anyone else) in lesson requests, lessons, uploaded plans or chat messages. Automatically created content can contain mistakes, so always review it before using it in class.

Who we share data with

We share personal data only with service providers that help us run Lessonwise, and only what each one needs:

  • Google (Gemini API) and DeepSeek: content creation and the help chat, as described above.
  • PayPal: payment processing. When you pay, you deal with PayPal directly; PayPal tells us the result and order details. PayPal’s own privacy statement applies to the data you give it.
  • Resend: sending transactional emails such as password reset links (your email address, your name for the greeting, and the email content).
  • Openverse: finding openly licensed photos for lessons. Picture search terms (taken from the lesson or typed by you in the picture search) are sent to Openverse, and the photos shown in your lessons load from its servers, so your browser connects to them.
  • Railway (application hosting) and Neon (database, stored in Frankfurt, EU): they run the application and store its database on our behalf.
  • WhatsApp (Meta): only if you choose to contact us on WhatsApp.

We may also disclose data when the law requires it, to protect our rights or users’ safety, or as part of a transfer of the service to a new owner, who would have to respect this policy.

International transfers

Lessonwise is operated from Morocco. Your account data and content are stored in our database in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany). Our other service providers may process data in other countries, including the United States and China. Data protection rules there may differ from those where you live. We only use providers we need to run the service and send them only the data needed for each task.

How long we keep data

  • Account, profile and content: for as long as your account exists. A lesson’s version history keeps up to 50 earlier versions and is deleted with the lesson. When you delete a lesson or material, it is removed from your account.
  • “Check my plan” reviews: the plan text and its review are kept until your account is deleted, or removed sooner if you ask us.
  • Reviews of Lessonwise: until you delete your review or your account is deleted. If you withdraw your consent to publication, it is no longer shown on our website.
  • Deleting your account: account deletion is done on request: email support@getlessonwise.com from the email address of your account. We then delete or anonymise your account, profile and content. Copies in routine backups kept by our providers, if any, are overwritten over time.
  • Payment and credit records: when your account is deleted, we keep the records of payments and credits (amount, date and PayPal order ID) for as long as accounting and tax laws require. PayPal also keeps its own records.
  • Support messages: for as long as needed to help you and improve our answers, until you ask us to delete them.
  • Password reset tokens: they stop working after 60 minutes or after one use.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it;
  • correct it (you can edit your name and profile yourself in Settings);
  • delete your account and data;
  • receive your data in a portable format (you can also download your lessons at any time as Word, PowerPoint or PDF files, or as a ZIP lesson pack);
  • object to or ask us to restrict some processing;
  • complain to a data protection authority, for example the CNDP in Morocco or the authority in your country.

To make a request, email support@getlessonwise.com from the email address of your account. We may ask you to confirm your identity and will reply within 30 days.

Students and children

Lessonwise is a tool for teachers. Students do not have accounts and do not use the service. You must be an adult to create an account, and the service is not directed at children.

Teachers must not enter students’ personal data (such as names linked to grades, photos, contact details, health information or other sensitive details) into lesson requests, lessons, uploaded plans or support messages. Class lists in Classroom tools stay in your browser, as explained above. If you believe a child or student’s personal data has been sent to us, contact us and we will delete it.

Cookies and similar technologies

  • Session cookie (essential): keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. It cannot be read by scripts on the page.
  • Preference cookies: remember your interface language and light/dark theme for up to one year.
  • Local storage in your browser, for the features listed under “Data that stays in your browser”.

We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. When you open the payment window on the Billing page, PayPal’s own script loads and may set its own cookies under PayPal’s cookie policy.

Security

We protect your data with measures such as hashed passwords, signed session cookies that are kept away from page scripts, encrypted connections (HTTPS), reset links that work only once, and signing out your other devices after a password reset. Payments are handled by PayPal, so card details never reach us. No online service can guarantee complete security; if you think your account has been compromised, reset your password and contact us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app or by email.
